Today, before coming to Granby for the Scrapbooking event, I took my accounting team from Les Editions Heritage (job no. 1) to visit the Salon du livre de Montréal. It's a huge event, bringing together all French language publishers & book distributors from all over the world. Our company has an enormous stand at this show, employing about 40 people to run it. The idea was to give the accounting team a feeling of appartenance, since we are not directly involved in organizing or working at the Salon. We just get to record all the numbers (sales & expenses) that the Salon generates. After visiting and oohing and ahing at the beautiful booth that Heritage had set up - we proceeded to visit the rest of the exhibition. I was really impressed by the size of it all and most importantly by the number of people visiting. It was jam packed full of people - waiting lines everywhere! I guess books are still a hot comodity.
Now comes the real exciting part of my day! At these shows, you get to meet authors, and if you are really lucky, you get to have your book autographed. I got to meet Mr. Ken Follet - author of "The Pillars of the Earth". They were selling his books in French, but because he was featured and signing copies, they had some English copies for sale too - so I didn't hesitate to purchase his newest book - "World Without End" and a couple of paper backs of older books of his that I want to read (at 40% off because I am part of the industry) and yes, Mr. Follet autographed all 3 of my books. He looked me directly in the eyes and thanked me for enjoying his books so much. I floated all the way back to the office!
Many happy hours await me in my little reading corner....
