I woke up this morning with a tenacious migraine. I especially did not want to go downstairs and come to terms with our disastrous encounter with our local "Pépé la Pew", but the doggies had to be let out for their morning thing. As I donned my jeans and a sweater, a wave of pungent skunky aroma wafted over me and I just knew that this would not be a fun day. David, who slept through the entire commotion last night, was upset at the pee on the kitchen floor and wondered why it smelled so awful. As I explained to him why the dogs never had a chance to relieve themselves the night before, it became evident that the odor was not just caused by Ladie's urine which was quickly washed away. At least Harrison's eyes were clear, no sign of stinging this morning. The whole porch portion of the house is wiffy - we will have to do something about that later tonight. It turns out that skunks do not really spray you as much as "mist" you and the product is oil based, so it sticks to your hair, skin and remains in your lungs. I guess that is why Harrison did not feel wet last night. As for myself, I swallowed a couple of Liquid Gel Advils and went to work, feeling quite musky.
One of my co-workers has a couple of big dogs and gave me an excellent recipe for the dog's coat:
1 bottle of 3% Peroxyde
1/4 cup of baking soda
1 tablespoon of dish washing detergent
Mix together in a bowl. Wet the dog's fur and apply solution liberally. Let stand for 10 minutes and rinse out thoroughly. She says it works wonders - she uses it every year. So - guess what I will be doing tonight. I might even try the mixture on the porch!
An now - back to work. When I step out of the office, I am greeted by a definite musky skunky smell the minute I walk back in. This is not good...
