An early morning walk in the park

Most mornings, Bella and I go running in this park which is walking distance from my appartment in St-TimothĂ©e. The park is beautiful in the summertime, and I guess winter brings its own natural beauty too, but the paths in the winter are snow and ice covered and hard to navigate. This morning, I decided that we would take a little break from running and simply walk in the park.  There are hundreds of wild geese and ducks making a cacophauny of noise that rivals any iPods or Walkman.  I brought my iPhone and took pictures, a few for you to view. I will do the same as spring gradually turns this grey and brown park to a lush green wonderland. I can run for 8km in this park without having to turn around. It is by far my favourite running territory. And this early in the morning means that I can just let Bella run without a leash - there is no one around - we have the park to ourselves (or almost - occasionally I will meet Ginette, a lady with a big sheepdog). We both enjoy this magical time in the morning - it's a perfect way of starting the day - whether running or walking.

Breathe in, breathe out, move on.....

Four and a half years ago, David came back from Vancouver where he had been living for 11 years, and moved back in with us for a few weeks while getting his feet back on the ground. Three years ago, his brother Patrick moved back home temporarily while looking for work.  It's been fun, they helped us, we helped them, but there comes a time when you have to move on. Saturday morning, Keith & I sat down with both our sons and told them that they had 6 months to find a new place to live. We didn't know what to expect, they have had it pretty easy paying minimal rent and enjoying all the benefits of living in a nice home, including high speed internet, cable TV, and laundry services.  I was pleasantly surprised at how well they took the news, I guess they had been expecting this for a while.  By Sunday evening, both were making plans for their new apartment - they will remain in Farnham and share a small appartment.  This will be one move that I will enjoy helping out with.  Having my sons live nearby is great, having my sons move out of MY house, priceless.

A running blog...

Those who know me a little know that running is a big part of my life.  I have created a blog dedicated to the ups and downs of my running - what went wrong, what went right, how I feel while running.  Since I do not want to bore you all to bits with my running prose, you can choose to totally ignore this other blog, and that's fine. I'll save this blog for everything else but running - unless the running overtakes my daily activity.  I do have a couple of semi-marathons lined up - One in April - a charity run for the Generations Foundation, and one in June (on Father's day) for fun.  I'll keep on training and will post about it on this blog http://onelonelyrunner.blogspot.com/,  you are welcome to visit anytime!

Book review: 11/22/63

11/22/63 - That's the title of the book. It's Steven King's latest and it is not a horror book at all.  I downloaded this book to my iPad during the holidays because I had an iTunes gift card and I thought my iBook shelf was too bare.  I certainly didn't have any spare time to read much in January or February, but when I landed in the waiting room of the hospital last Thursday with 3 hours of waiting - boy, was I ever happy to have put my iPad in my purse before leaving.  I started reading my eBook and was hooked. I didn't see the afternoon go by and was almost sorry to have to put it down when they finally called my name. Well almost - but still happy to get out of there.  On Saturday evening, with Keith gone and on my own again, I curled up on the sofa with Bella and finished the book.   It's a good thriller - the hero finds a blip in the timeline and travels back to 1958 - where he attempts to change the past by righting some terrible wrongs - the main one being the assassination of JF Kennedy. Time is resistant to change, and it isn't easy for him.  I loved the story and I loved the feeling of being transported back to the time when I was just a little girl.
As for my iBook, I'll have to make sure that there is always an unread book in the bookshelf - you never know when you have time to kill. I really enjoy reading an electronic book - I didn't think I would, but the iPad is lighter than a big book, it is back lit - so who cares about bad lighting, and you can increase the fonts to make it confortable to read.

If you are looking for a good book to read - go ahead - this one will please you. Sorry - the only thing about ebooks is that you can't lend them.....You'll have to find your own copy!

Every morning I wake up and wonder what great things are in store for me today. Seriously - I always ask myself that question and hope for the best.  Great things haven't been in my karma this past winter as each day brought only ice (slipped and hurt my back - twice) toothache (witch resulted in a root canal treatment - the biggest ache came from the void it left in my bank account) sad news almost daily ( deaths, separations, miscariage), overwork (sick assistant who I had to fill in for) etc..   March finally rolled in, phew! Let's move on and expect great things this month! Too bad it didn't  start on as fine a note as I wished. My dysfunctional filing cabinet had it in for me on March 1st - it sliced  my little finger and I spent the whole afternoon at the hospital waiting to get stitches.  This certainly wasn't helpful with my work overload - nor pleasant, but it could have been worse. The staff at the hospital where more than pleasant and treated me as the most important patient of the hour.  I guess it really helped that we were in the middle of a snow storm (although it made getting there and back really scary - yes, I drove myself in) because the waiting room was half empty -otherwise I would have waited much longer. Now I have this big bulky bandage on my finger which makes it harder to type, but my finger survives and so will I.   At least I got my filing cabinet fixed, and that's a good thing.

Now, what great things are in store for me today?
