Today is my eldest son's 32nd birthday, and this really takes me back in time! Here's a little trip down memory lane....
It was on the morning of January 25th, 32 years ago, when I checked in at St-Mary's Hospital in Montreal, big as a house and ready to burst. I was scared, elated, terrified, and thrilled all at the same time. Labor was slow and well, laborious. David was born 36 hours later (I'll spare you the details) at 11:56 PM. Four more minutes, and he would be celebrating his birthday the 27th. The long labor took its toll on poor little David, and it made him look like a little cavemen. My mother, who braved a snow storm to come and visit me at the hospital (back then, they kept you in for at least 3 days) said when she first laid eyes on David "He has character" - but she really meant, "This is the ugliest baby I have ever seen!" I knew what she meant, but it didn't bother me, I also thought he was a pretty ugly little guy, but that never stopped me from loving him to bits - for me, he was perfect! Motherhood suited me - I fell into my new role easily, and it seems that it's a role that I am destined to keep for the rest of my life.
He still has character!
