I just got a resignation letter today from one of my employees.
She sent it to me in a long draw-out e-mail which basically boils down to what a terrible person I am, and that she can not work in my presence anymore. A little surprising since I only really see her for 1 hour per week - but last week, when I did see her, I did say a negative comment on the state of the store (although not to her), but which, I admit, was harsh. I am very picky about the look of all 3 stores, and I expect my sales staff to keep each store looking clean and tidy at all times. When I see disorder - I tell them to clean it up - the client who walks in out of the street does not care if the sales people have been busy - they see the mess, and they make their own assumptions on the store by what they see.
When I say "clean up" - I get all kinds of excuses, but truth be told, I just want the place to look neat and tidy at all times and I don't want excuses.... In Laval, I have an employee who comes in 2 hours before opening time to make sure that the store is ready for the public - so when I walk in at noon from my store run - I don't want to see a mess. Therefore - MEA CULPA - I am that terrible boss - and may all who read this fear and loath me! I phoned my soon to be ex-employee and I told her simply that I accepted her resignation - no need to try and convince her to stay, and no need to try and convince her that I am not the devil. When I see her on Wednesday, I will look over my glasses at her (this advice from b-i-l) and gently walk her out of the store.
To be totally honest, this is a good employee, and she did a lot of great things for the store and was very devoted to La Scrapbookerie. I don't think she understood that the simple fact that I delegated certain aspects of store management to her meant that I totally trusted her with my precious store; instead, she felt unsupported because I left her do things by herself without following up all the time. And for that - I am sorry. I will miss her.
On another note, I heard from a very reliable source that she was planning on opening up her own business - maybe that had something to do with her resignation - you think?
Now, I have an opening for a part-time sales consultant in my Lava store - does anyone want to apply? Just remember - the boss is an evil witch who will look at you over her glasses...and...boss you.
