Myth Busting!

Yesterday, I bought some Miracle Magnets which are supposed to replace laundry detergent. Many people in my surroundings have been telling me about this amazing product and seem to be absolutely convinced that it works. I paid the hefty sum of $40- but had some serious afterthoughts on my way home. So.... I decided to put the magnets to the test Myth Busting wise.

I started with 3 white towels. Step one - I smeared ketchup & mustard on the first towel - threw it in the wash with other misc. items, and washed it using only warm water - nothing else. The result - a towel with mustard stains - but no trace of the ketchup.

Step 2 - I smeared the second towel with ketchup & mustard and washed it using exact same cycle & water temperature & same misc items but this time added the Miracle Magnets. The result - pretty much the same as step one.

Step 3 - Smeared towel no 3 with ketchup & mustard, and washed it using again exact same cycle & water temperature & misc items but this time added Tide detergent and removed the magnets. The result - only slightly better than step 1 & 2. I still ended up with a mustard stain.

I redid all steps using very hot water. The results were not much different. To get rid of the mustard stain - I washed all 3 towels in hot water with Tide and Javex. Ahh... finally - white towels (I was worried they would be forever stained...)

Conclusion --- I'll stick with the laundry detergent - the towel washed in soap did fare much better - and it seems that there was little difference with washing in water only and washing with magnets. What I will do is maybe add less soap - seems that water alone can do a pretty good job - and just because I paid so much for the @(*%&%(*&*%& magnets - I will throw them in for good measure - can't hurt....
