This year, I gave myself the best Christmas gift of all - I went out for a 50 minute run on this beautiful cold crisp winter day and enjoyed the uplifting solitude it provided me and marvelled on how I was able to run for 7 or 8 kilometers on a regular basis and actually enjoy it. This gift is not a spur of the moment gift that one picks up as a last minute, nor is it an expensive gift that one saves up for months in order to afford it. No, this gift of physical fitness is something that is purchased little by little every day with nothing but determination and the will (and sometime a swift kick to oneself in the butt) to move. But the rewards are wonderful - good health, clear mind, and a sense of well being. It took me years to understand that health, something we take so much for granted when we are young, is the most precious thing that we own. What use is anything else if we are not well enough to enjoy it? And, just so you don't think of me as too fanatical in my fitness sermon, I do confess that I have already eaten many more calories than I burnt off while running today - hey, it is Christmas after all - and that turkey in the oven sure smells wonderful!
Heres wishing you all the gift of health - so go out there and move it, move it!
Merry Christmas!
