Lady K - Jan 2002 -Mar 2010

Today was a hard day for our family, we lost a small but important member. Here is Lady's obituary:

Born deaf, our adorable little dog came to live with us at the age of 12 weeks. She was the cutest little thing and we were so taken by her.  It took us a while to discover her hearing disability, since she always took cues from Harrison and acted pretty much like a hearing dog - but a very peculiar dog.  She had little quirks, she walked crooked - a little sideways like a crab, she had crooked eyes, and bad teeth  but for all her physical faults, she was still beautiful, and she had an inner beauty that made you constantly wonder what was going on in that little head of hers.

For 8 years, Lady delighted us with her little quirks and habits. She hated wet grass, she loved the snow - she didn't like crossing lines - she loved television etc..  She never barked - except when totally excited (when a cat walked by - or when faced with the prospect of a car ride) When she did bark, she sounded so funny - her bark had that deaf quality to it.  We knew she was special, and we just loved her.

This winter, Lady developed a cough, at first we didn't think much of it - she had a cold - maybe? But the cough got worse and she started to loose weight. When we took her to the vet, the X-rays showed us what no pet owner likes to see. A big mass, pressing on her bronchi - therein the cough. The vet prescribed medication - she said it was temporary, that the mass would not magically disappear, but the meds would make her more comfortable. But we knew that the day would come when the meds had lost their effect. That day was today. With broken hearts, we said our final farewell to our beloved little Lady, and with a little assistance from the vet, she passed on to a better life.

RIP LadyK

  1. Losing a pet is never easy. We love them when we have them and we continue to love them after they are gone. So very sorry to read about Lady....
