Our neighbour is french speaking and this is what she said last week: " Halloween, ici à Farnham, c'est BIG!" So, Keith & I did the right thing - we went to Walmarde and bought tons of chocolate bars (the mini kind) candies, suckers, licorice - al the real good stuff - secretly hoping that there would be a sizable amount left over for us poor adult to old to go trick or treating. We created 100 bags - great bags that I would have been absolutely thrilled to get about 40 years ago in the streets of Sherbrooke!
The house is all decorated - our kind neighbour donated a couple of hay stacks and tons of huge corn stalks that we propped up around the door - Keith cut out a pumpkin and placed it on the hay stack, surrounded by 4 other smaller pumpkins. The wreath on the door is a witch and there is fake cobwebs covering everything - very halloweenish. So we were ready - or so we thought! Let the kids come! And they did! It took less than 45 minutes to hand out 100 bags of candy - and at the end, I was deperately opening up the bags and splitting up the contents to the hords of cute little monsters out there. Wow! Back in Dorval, if we had 5 kids drop by we were lucky! Lesson learned - do not underestimate Halloween in Farnham - c'est BIG!
We gave out 100 goody bags as well...not in 45 minutes but in 2 1/2 hours....all worth it...
