Gone gone gone....

I love my sons, I really do!  But despite this never ending love that only a mother can feel for her offsprings, I was somehow thrilled to see them load up all their  junk stuff into a moving truck and leave the house once and for all. David landed on our doorstep 5 years ago with a small suitcase and a small cardbox box. That is all he had to his name.  Patrick landed on our doorstep a year later with not much more - maybe 3-4 boxes.  When they left this past weekend, they filled a truck. Amazing what a few years of cheep rent and a regular job can provide.   Don't get me wrong, we welcomed our sons and were glad to help them out in a time of despair need, but at one point, you just have to boot the birds out of the nest and let them fly (again).  They now live in a rented semi-detached house - it's quite nice and suits their personality very well.  I can only hope that they will be happy  in their new home, and yes, they will be living together and sharing the rent and utility bills. It seemed like a great time to renew my greying towels, and aging pots & pans, so I gladly donated them to the cause. I had been storing the new towels and pots & pans for a while and it pleased me enormously to take them out to fill the empty cupboard spaces the guys left behind. . Gone are the big ugly shoes hanging around in the kitchen, gone the overflowing ashtray on the porch. Patrick's ex-room will be bombed and fumigated  re-painted and get a new carpet, and serve as a guest room once again. The basement will again become an excercise room - time to pull my treadmill out of the closet. Oh what joy to be able to run around the house naked alone, without worrying about waking anyone up early on weekend mornings. Will I miss them? No way! Well maybe a little, they are my sons after all and we do a have great time when we get together. But that's it, when we get together will be much more special now that they are not living at home anymore.  Any mother would agree with me that the ideal situation would have been for them to find a nice girl and get married and start a family  move in with her, but alas, that didn't happen. Still, one can hope...but that's for the next phase of their existence. Meanwhile, it's now just Keith and I in the house, now if only we could be in the house at the same time!

  2. Sue, you really have a way of writing that is awesome. You should write a book, I would read it for sure! I am glad you have regained your property back. Have fun cleaning it all up again!

  3. Why thank you Claire! I actually have a goal to write a book before I kick the bucket. Not sure what it will be about yet, but I have ideas running in my head. For sure it will be in English, but that's all I can say about it now.
