Today's goal

Woke up early this morning with a goal. Actually, I wake up early most every morning and usually with a goal. But today, my goal wasn't to complete some complicated report or to do payroll, no, today is Sunday, and my goal was to run the 20 km race around Lac Brome (in Knowlton, Qc). The weather was too hot for my taste, but I had a sports drink chilling in the fridge. A bite to eat, and sneaked off to Knowlton while the rest of the household were still dreaming in their beds. The atmosphere around this run is quite unique. It is truly a family event, and you see kids and dogs all around. They even have a race for the kids (1.5 km). I would have loved to have Keith with me to cheer me on, but, as is most often the case, he was on the road to Florida. I was concerned about this race, not just for the heat, but for my right foot. I developed Plantar Fasciitis in the arch - it' like miniature tears in the tendons, and it hurts to walk. So, I had no choice but to take it easy these last 2 weeks, and I didn't feel as prepared as I should have been. I know I've been walking a lot- that actually helps, but my running was slowed down and decreased in time and intensity. So, my goal was not to beat last years time, or to harm myself,my goal was just to run, enjoy the never ending hills, the view of the lake (was often tempted to ditch the run and jump in it)' and finish the race. And I did. It was a good day!
