I wasn't always a dog person. I used to have a cat - a beautiful calico cat named Pepper. She was given to us as a tiny feisty kitten, and spent her life (almost 19 years) charming us with her wit and and letting us know who really was the boss. We didn't own Pepper, she owned us. When she passed away an old lady, we were sad, but at the same time, we knew that she had had a good life and that her time had come - that's the way it goes. We then got dogs! First our handsome Harrison, then Miss Quirky Lady. And now Lady is gone, and I sure miss that crazy little dog. Funny how they get under your skin these furry little things. Even Harrison misses Lady - there is a sadness about him, and since he can't talk and confirm this, I'll interpret the sadness to be the loss of his companion.
I guess I can't live without a pet. Harrison is away travelling with Keith and I have nothing to pat and hold and talk to. So, I have decided to get a cat. A very specific breed of cat. A Maine Coon cat. Maine Coons are big cats - and they have tufted ears and long long tails. They are very hardy and live for 20 years. That is good. They are the most dog like cats that there is, and they are the least allergenic ones too (except for the hairless cat). So, I did my homework, I read up on the cats and found a suitable breeder. Now I am on the waiting list. Might take a while, but I am patient - I'll get my little kitten and love it for a long time. Hopefully Harrison will warm up to her (I asked for a female) - I know Keith & sons will fall instantly in love - they are all cat people. I guess that is the best of both worlds, a dog and a cat - why not?
