Last week, while running through the Island Park trail in St-Timothée in the early hours of the day, I came across 3 deers who scampered away as I approached them. It made my day! What a beautiful sight on a lovely crisp morning!
This week, I came across a deer who jumped out of the ditch and into my path while driving home from work. It ruined my day to say the least, and the poor beast was killed in the process. What a tragic ending for this little deer - yes, to make things worse (or maybe I should say 'thank goodness') the deer was young and small. A young gentlemen stopped and asked me is I was all right (pretty shaken up, was I) and told me that a large mother deer had been killed the day before on this very road - this was probably her offspring. What a family tragedy! Not only that, but just a little further in the field from the dying deer was a smaller deer with spots, looking at me accusingly - I had just killed his buddy or worse his sibling - and he certainly had the right to stare. We called the police who arrived within minutes and I filed a report. By the time the police arrived, the young deer had died. My car - well, see for yourself....
