My morning ritual...

As I open my door to the great outdoors a few minutes past 5 AM on any given week day, I become part of the morning ritual that every little town experiences every day. I had to wear sunglasses to run during June & July, but now I wear a reflector vest, just to make sure that I am seen in the dark by any distracted or sleepy driver. The town is still asleep, the houses are mostly dark, there is no sign of activity - even the birds are sleeping, but as I start my run, I come across a couple of early morning walkers - I meet them everyday at the same spot, going in the opposite direction. We wave. On towards the center of the city, past the falls, the church, the main intersection (there might be an early driver) past the elementary school, now the sky is definitely starting to look brighter, up the hill, beyond the tracks (no trains at this hour) and on. Past the industrial sector - (a couple of manufactures) and on up the hill to the other edge of town - across a tree ligned road - this is my favorite part, and now the town is slowly shaking the sleep from itself and coming to life - dark houses are lighting up, a dog is being let out and comes down the driveway to greet me, a cat crosses my path. Now I turn back towards the industrial sector which is still asleep, and head down the hill towards the town center again. Past the tracks (still no train) and towards the main road. Traffic! At least 4 cars and maybe a truck! There is life here! Now past the burnt out house, the community pool, the curve in the road - ha, there is another jogger running towards me (wave) and there, on the other side of the street is the newspaper carrier on his bike. By the time I run past our house (still dark) I've been on the road for over 40 minutes and on a morning like today, the sunrise is beautiful! This is such a wonderful time of the day - full of promise, full of hope.

Have a nice day!
