Last summer I caught a real nasty virus. I guess I would have to be a little more precise. My laptop caught the virus, but I was the one who put up with the never ending pop ups and ads for an entire year. No amount of MacAfee scan, Adware Alert, Regcure etc.. helped. This nasty bugger was here to stay. Every day, I cleaned up the temp files, scanned the hell out of my computer, but to no avail. Gradually, it s t a r t e d s l o w i n g d o w n until the point when I had absolutely no choice but to re-image the laptop.
Now, no matter how much you think you are ready for that kind of surgery, there are always secondary effects that are unpleasant and unexpected. You think you carefully backed up all your files, but there is always something that was hidden and not backed up. You can re-install all your programs, but then you have to spend hours downloading all the #(&E&% updates. No wonder I put up with so much for a year! I've spent the last 2 weeks trying to make my laptop look and act like it was (minus the virus). I lost all my old e-mails because the Outlook file was corrupted and couldn't be saved. Luckily, I had sync'ed all the adresses with my iPac just before things got out of hand, so I was able to ActiveSync my address book at least.
At least I can say that the laptop has fully recovered its speed. My! I had no idea it could be so fast! Even typing is faster! And no more pop ups! I should have done that a year ago (I know, I know - my hubby will say I told you so...)
So all this to say... I'm back!
