Action in Farnham!

Yes! That is indeed our house with the nice hunky firemen all over it this afternoon. We had a chimney fire and had to make that dreaded 911 call. We had the chimney sweeped in September and this was only our 4th or 5th fire in our woodburning stove - so we don't know what to make of it. The firemen arrived within 5 minutes (the fire station is 2 minutes away) and there was 18 of them! They were very efficient and had the fire out very quickly. Apart from a strong wood smoke smell permeating the house, there is no damage but you can bet that we are not ready to light up that stove again until it gets further investigated! Now, that kind of excitement, I can do without, thank you....

Today was a very busy day! K & I were invited as guests to a breakfast held by the Farnham Optimist Club. We accepted, knowing that this would be an excellent way to meet the locals - so to speak. Turns out it was a lot of fun - Optimists in Farnham have a great sense of humour and we laughed throughout the breakfast We are still undecided on whetherwe want to join them, but it was fun.....
We spent most of the afternoon putting up Christmas lights outside - boy - now that is no laughing matter!! K went all grumpy on me (what else is new...) when the strand of lights he had just finished putting up hooked up to the gutter gave out and he realised that he had to remove it and put another one up. I rushed to the local Rona and bought some more lights and he started all over again. Not an easy task - we froze our fingers & toes in the minus 8 or 9 degrees, but we finally finished and went in for a nice hot cup of tea. That's when K decided to make a nice fire in our wood burning stove.....and the rest of the afternoon went up in smoke - literally!
Our next door neighbours were sweet enough to invite us over for dinner, and we accepted gracefully. We were a little frazzled with the incident and it was nice to have someone to cluck over us for a while.

  1. So you had 14 firemen in the house and your bed wasn't even made... What's up with that?!?

  2. Oh no! Poor you! All of a sudden I am glad that we have gas fireplaces....not as romantic looking but still nice....and safe.

    Glad nothing more serious happened.
