There's this great Paul Simon tune on my Sony Walkman (the one I use for running) and although I have 8 hours of continuous music on my walkman, this song comes up everytime I go for a run - Diamonds on the sole of her feet - and in the song, Paul sing 'as if everybody knows what I'm talking about, talking about diamonds, diamonds on the sole of her feet'... Well, I have no clue what the heck it's suppose to mean and if any of my few readers do - please tell me!
What made me think today about the diamonds on the sole of her feet is the condition of my right sole. No, not my soul - that's holding up nicely (I think) - but my physical sole. I feel like I am running barefoot on diamonds these days. That's because I have a great big blister that just keeps getting bigger with every run. I tape it, and a new blister forms just on the edge of the bandage. By now, my whole sole is pretty much bandaged up. Last week, the #(%*#% blister got infected. I mean really infected - and I had to put antibiotics on it and not run for 6 days. Argh! Listen to me whine - maybe there is something wrong with my soul after all. Any marathoner will tell you that there are injuries to live with along the path of marathon training, but they didn't say you weren't allowed to vent just a little. OK - venting done. Did a cool 23 km today and feel great (except for said sole) Tomorrow is rest day (from running) so hopefully my sole will heal, again, before the Tuesday run. Shopping for new running shoes is definitely in the plans.
