Yesterday I tripped over my own feet (or maybe it was the door threshold) and fell sprawled accross the hallway floor. It was my left hand that caught the fall, and for some strange reason - my ring finger caught the door frame and broke. Boyohboyohboy (being very polite here) but this hurt! My first reaction (which was very smart if I do say so myself) was to remove my wedding band, since I had a feeling (ouch ouch ouch) that the finger would swell up real fast ( it did). Then, as I sat there on the floor rocking back and forth, I assessed the situation and decided that I had better get it looked at. This was not a pleasant decision to make. No one (in their right mind) wants to head towards an ER on the weekend in Quebec - but the local CLSC was closed, and what else could I do? Feeling somewhat sheepish and very sore, I sat in the passenger seat while K drove me to the Cowanaville Hospital - about 23 kilometers away and the closest medical center to Farnham. Now, I had heard a lot of good things about that hospital, and although I didn't enjoy going there for something as silly as a broken finger - I was glad not to be going there for anything more serious (like a heart attack...). So - we found the hospital quickly and made our way to the ER. I was sure that I would be there forever - but believe it or not, I was seen, given a new hospital card, X-rayed, splinted, given a follow up appointement all within 1 1/2 hour. The staff was courteous and friendly, and their triage system was very well organised. I have to admit that no ambulances arrived during my visit - so that helped.
Well, for now, my confidence in our health care system is restored. I feel good about that place - just as well - there is not much choice out here.
As for the unfortunate finger - it is swollen & blue but it will heal and be as good as new - so I am grateful that that's all there is to it. Still, typing is much slower, but I am spared the dishes and other cleaning chores...
Is there a moral to this story? Yes! The moral is, don' t run in the house, you'll break something..
hope your finger (and you) feel better soon....
